SYMPTOM:
The grinder has power but
is not working. If you have power to the grinder and the switch light comes
on when you turn on the switch but the grinder does not run, do the following:
1.
UNPLUG THE GRINDER.
2.
Place the grinder on its
back on a table, letting the power cord hang down between you and the table to
avoid crimping.
3.
Take a large Phillips
screwdriver and remove the four corner base screws.
4.
Slowly pull away the base
so that it gently hangs down between you and the
table. Be careful not to pull any of the wires from the
terminals.
You will see the following parts on the base:
A
black switch that slides off the right side panel.
Two
white, round tubes. These are capacitors.
A
black terminal (junction) block with wires going to and from it.
A
black circuit breaker with two wires attached to it.
A
white contactor that handles the power (AB M09)
The
contactor sends the power to the motor when you turn the power switch
on.
Your contactor has a bad contact but also has spare contacts that
can be used to
temporarily fix your problem. Refer to the wiring diagram
on the base of the grinder.
On your grinder, the contactor is powered through “A1” and “A2” from the
switch.
The motor is powered from “T2” to “L2.”
“T1” – “L1,” “T3” – “L3,” and “14” – “13” are three spare contacts that can be
used.
5.
Move the wire from “T2”
to “T1,” and
6.
Move the two wires from
“L2” to “L1.”
7.
Tighten the screws.
Reassembly:
Slide the switch back
into the side panel.
Place the base back on
the grinder, making sure that none of the wires get crimped between the base and
the side panels.
Screw the four corner
screws in place.
Set the grinder upright.
Plug the power cord into
the outlet and test the grinder.
Order a replacement
contactor for future use, Part # 57006.
