Grinding Disc Replacement

REMOVING THE OLD DISCS: (LARGEST Sears industrial flat blade or Home Depot's Husky 12"x3/8" #9048 screwdriver is recommended).

  1. UNPLUG THE GRINDER.
  2. Remove the plastic hopper.

2a. 804 GRINDERS: Loosen the rear left hopper lock screw. Grab the plastic hopper and twist it counter-clockwise 30 degrees and lift.

2b. ALL OTHER MODELS: Remove the 4 corner screws holding the top plate on the housing and lift the cover/hopper assembly.

  3. Get a large screwdriver and remove the top screws.
  4. Pull up the stationary disc flange by placing your thumb in the center hole and pulling up on it. If the disc does not move as you are pulling up with your thumb, tap the edge of the disc with the plastic handle of the screwdriver.
  5. Clean the slots of the screws (p/n 50420) and with a large tip screwdriver, remove all 8 screws. To keep the rotating disc from turning, insert the plastic handles of a tool inside the exit hole of the grinding chamber. Be careful not to damage the heads of the screws as it would make it difficult to remove them.
  6. Clean the areas marked "X" in the diagram to the right with steel wool or a single edge razor blade, and make them perfectly clean. If the mating surfaces are not clean, you cannot get Turkish grind.

INSTALLING THE NEW DISCS / ADJUSTING THE GRIND

  1. Make sure the discs are clean with no coffee or dirt particles on the underside.
  2. Install either disc on the rotating disc and the other on the stationary disc, making sure the screws are tight.
  3. Make sure that the top edge of the grinding chamber and the underside of the stationary disc are perfectly clean.
  4. Adjust the grind setting to #9.
  5. Align the screw holes of the stationary disc with the grinding chamber and insert the screws tightly.
  6. Replace the cover with the plastic hopper. Now you can plug the grinder in.
  7. With the adjustment knob on #9, turn the grinder on.
  8. Loosen the screw in the center of the adjusting knob about 3/16 of an inch and, with the motor running, adjust the grind towards #1 slowly until you hear metal scraping. (If you do not hear a metallic sound when you reach #1, pull the knob away from the grinder and, while pulled out, set the #9 in front of the red line and adjust the grind towards #1 as above).
  9. Notice the position of the adjusting knob when you first hear metal. Increase the adjustment setting counter-clockwise by one line (or half a setting).
  10. Pull the adjusting knob away from the grinder housing and, with it pulled, position the #1 to be in front of the red arrow.
  11. Grind a handful of beans on #1, and the output should be a powder. After completion, on any setting, YOU SHOULD NEVER HEAR METAL SOUND.
  12. Tighten the screw in the center of the adjusting knob.
  13. IF YOUR GRIND IS NOT POWDER, REPEAT THE INSTALLATION SECTION.
